[BC] Vonage

There are ways to get the Tivo units to work over vonage.

The real issue is that the internal modems in the Tivo units try to
negotiate at 56k and then work their way down, vonage MIGHT get you about
20k but the modem gives up long before it try's to negotiate that low.

The solution is to use an external modem that you have set for a lower data
rate for the initial call, and then you can use the USB/wireless once you
get the software upgrade downloaded to your box. If you have a DirecTV Tivo
unit you need to leave the external modem on there all the time because DTV
refuses to enable the USB ports for downloading the guide data, and wants
the boxes to call in. Regular DTV call-in's are unaffected since the bit
rate for the DTV call (get sunday ticket info, and send PPV purchases to be
billed) gets negotiated at low data rate.

more info can be found in this thread for anybody who is suffering with
this: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=135715
