some work, other dont. all depends on how picky the modems are.
however there are companies (honeywell has a module and other are coming
out) that will install an IP module in your alarm panel so that it
communicates with the central station directly via IP over your broadband
connection. The box is also polled every 10 minutes or so and if it does
not respond you get a phone call telling you that your internet connection
is down.
https://nextalarm.com also has a module to work with existing systems that
is basically a customized VOIP adapter that will fake out the alarm locally
when it tries to dial out, get the alarm data, then pass it over IP to the
central station.
