There is a new resurface of a virus...It has been hammering our email server
all weekend.
W32.Beagle is a mass-mailing worm that uses its own SMTP engine to send out
copies of another threat, Trojan.Lodear.D. The worm also opens a back door
on the compromised computer using TCP port 80 and lowers security settings.
The link is to info...not the virus itself....
As for opening attachments...you are usually safe if you do not open
them...that is usually the case *but* macro virus payloads can be opened if
you use a program like OE and have the preview pane active...The preview
pane should always be turned off on any computer with moderate mission
critical functions.
lemme get up on this soapbox...
Some people are so freaked about security and accessibility that it makes
productive use of computer recourses challenging. Everyone takes risks when
you get on the internet. You need to balance good judgment with reasonable
security practices to optimize your usage of network recourses.
ok...that's all...
