Youth isn't necessarily the issue--maturity is. We've had an uncommonly mature
19-year-old certified as an ENG van operator, and he did a great job. OTOH, there
are people my age--44--who shouldn't be allowed within a block of a van.
I agree entirely with the comments about the DRIVER's responsibility; however, that
DOES NOT excuse management from equipping the vehicle properly and ensuring that
all persons working in or near vans have the proper training. Our company has had
a very strict policy in that regard as long as I've been there, and no doubt much
longer...
