Actually, that's pointing towards the arctic circle where most of this DXing is taking place. Think great circle route for
your signal. Best DX report I got was from a guy in Finland who picked up KYCR at it's night power of 230W, and it's non-D!
Propagation is such an odd thing. I've heard of hams who have scanned a seemingly dead band, got one signal that sounded
like it was next door but was clear around the world.

I have a couple of friends in Finland who used to spend a lot of time doing this (one being a former President of the Finnish DX Society). They would travel up to the Arctic Circle region (Roveniemi) for a week, put up hundreds of meters of wire into the woods, and listen for North, Central and South American AM stations from a very "RF quiet" listening station (away from powerlines, cash registers, etc). Their ventures contributed greatly to European coffee sales.
