The solution goes much further than that. You have to educate people
first as to why it's wrong to steal, and how illegal downloads
constitute theft. Ask the average teenager or college student to define
"intellectual property" or "copyright law," and then ask them to explain
why downloads without compensation are illegal. You're likely to get a
blank stare in return. The Internet culture of today is best summed up
as, "if it's on the Internet, it's free and it's mine." The RIAA is
going to end up continuing to take pot-shots at children until they are
educated, early in their lives, that theft doesn't just mean lifting a
candy bar at the supermarket.
