The time frame for the change is around 1970. The change was made to honor
Heinrich Hertz the German physicist who discovered the principle.

Subject: [BC] radio terminology question

I was wondering-- when I was a kid, we used to refer to the AM frequencies
as Kilocycles (kc), and all of the old radio books I collect use this
term. At what point did the name get changed to Kilohertz (kH) and what
was the reason for the change?
