World Book Encyclopedia (1988 edition).
The hertz was adopted in 1960 by an international group of
scientists at the General Conference on Weights and Measures.
It was named for Heinrich R. Hertz, a German physicist.
One post stated kilohertz was adopted in 1970 which seems
a reasonable time frame if Donna was a kid at that time.
(Bet that remark is gonna cost me!)
