Run Firefox web browser and install the "CustomizeGoogle" and "AdBlock 
Plus" (and its companion "Adblock Filterset.G Updater") extensions.  

The AdBlock gets rid of almost all ads on all sites... and the CustomizeGoogle 
allows you to customize the way Google responds to your queries.  (Among my 
favorites are 1. setting up the query result URLs to *not* have the embedded 
tracking links to tell Google which ones you click and 2. getting more than 
10 results per page.)  

Sure, I still get the "in-line" ads at the top of the search results, but no 
graphical banners anymore...  I just start reading after the 3-4 line 
"Product search results for [search terms here]" box.
