Guys, for the next three to five years there is going to be an explosive
growth in the cellular wireless business, just take it from me.
All of the major carriers are going to be spending in excess of 2-4 Billion
dollars per year in system enhancements and expansions because (1) all of
the competition is doing it and (2) the younger people are demanding
it--(have you ever considered how much business the local bells are loosing
to the residential customer and traveler, and are in turn selling more T1's
and DS3's to the wireless carriers for back-haul?). (3) High Speed wireless
digital is the darling at the moment. And Sprint has one of the very finest
with rates averaging 500kb and peaking at 1.8 mb.
After the next 3 to 5 years, there will be a major layoff of staff and
contractors because the money will have allowed them to reach a level that
would be acceptable for a few years.
So having said all of this, perhaps you might want to enter the ranks of
contracting yourself out to do the lowly job of optimization until you learn
all of the tools and methods of RF design in this field. Paul W., this
would be perfect for you as it would offer you a basic building block
approach to RF and you would be paid to do it. Looney, don't know about you
( :) ) you live so far up north and all. Not sure how many moose and elk
and coyotes that the carriers can sell to.
But boys that is where it will be for a few years.
Broadcasting does not pay the best, but it is good work. Long Distance used
to make me rich, but it is on hard times now. Think wireless. Think 75 K
and more a year if you learn your trade.
Just a suggestion, and no I am not hiring. I will be lucky to keep my fat
fanny around the place.
