[BC] How about a Self Regenerative Transmitter?

I was a young and foolish fellow at the time, working at a regional TV
station here in Tennessee and doing a little on air work and doing the night
shift engineering and some of the heavy maintenance. I learned a lot there
with the other fellows.
Well, this younger guy who was the evening switcher and I were both hams,
and this town was definitely a CB'ers town. If the weather wire was down or
the phones were down to the regional airport, I could always count on the
CB'ers to radio me the conditions, temp and forecast in preparation for my
10 pm weather report.
Well to create 'havoc among the yearlings' we took a simple little Lafayette
23 receiver and put in place a 6146 transmitter tube. We built it so that
any level that broke the squelch would turn on the 6146 into a self-excited
oscillator. Using a simple tank circuit, we would hook it up to a long wire
going out a window and up the tower. We had a capacitor timing circuit on
the transmit line so it would time out after a few min. It was always fun
to listen to the CB'ers speculate on what the interference was.
Not legal, but it was fun. Oh, the confessions of an older guy who knew
better and had the rules printed on the back of the 1st phone ticket to
guide me.
