No, it isn't--not to us.  Obviously, there are a lot of consumers who
still aren't past the stage of VCR's that always flash "12:00".  But
that's not the station's fault.  There's a little booklet that comes with
each and every TV set that's sold.  Some are better than others, but the
instructions are there.

Don't blame the operators--they're just following instructions.  If you
have a gripe about the crawls, it's with management.

When our newsroom or management orders a crawl, I run it exactly when and
as frequently as they request.  No more, no less.  I don't go off and
"free-lance" these things, any more than I go adding commercials on a
whim.
