>>I sure do miss the days when the TV weather man stood in front of a
chalk
board and drew the H's and L's. Fronts and clouds, Highs and Lows.<<

" Heck, some of them could even write backwards onto glass that was
between them and the camera, with the local area maps etched onto the
glass. Don Kent of WBZ-TV/Boston used to do that. Others, like Tex
Antoine of WABC-TV/New York, used to draw cartoons during the weather
forecast.
Sid Schweiger "

One of our local stations (late 50s) had the outline of the U.S. and
individual states on glass between a nice looking "weather girl" and the
camera. If you didn't care about the weather, the view was nice anyway. I
wondered how she could write so well backwards. It turns out that she was
writing normally from her side of the glass. The camera (Sarkes-Tarzian,
IIRC) had been modified with a switch that reversed the scan, swapping left
and right. Pretty clever, I thought.
