Bring back those memories. Yes, I listened to Emperor Gene on KYA. I once
worked with Johnny Holiday on a session when I was with Coast Recorders. It
was a spot for Del Monte. I still have the spot on tape in my collection.
Big "Daddy" Tom Donahue (the father of underground radio) was at KYA along
with Bobby Mitchell and on and on. KPFA (and don't forget KPFB..the 100
watter that filled in the Berkeley/Oakland hills area. Talk about your weird
station. Don't get me started about my home town and radio. I learned radio
by visiting the first top-40 radio station in San Francisco. KOBY! I finally
got (after a 30+ year search) their top of the hour jingle. Very rare and
that's all that seems to remain of KOBY.

Nope, don't remember them. But I do remember Mr. Science (not Dr. Science)
on KQED.
There was also some mention of radio back then. I used to listen to
Emporor Nelson on KYA (which he said meant Kick Your Antenna). Also heard
my first pledge drive on KPFA. They said that if you called right now, you
could hear your phone ring on the air! They also did live broadcasts from
Peoples' Park!
