Of course not... but don't forget... if you're in an area near power lines or 
industry of any kind, you will have a *lot* of noise to overcome. LF is really only useful in rural settings, where AC line noise is at a minimum.

I have had a great deal of success with large-aperture (8-foot or so) balanced, unshielded loops, as well as unbalanced, shielded "floppy loops) made of RG-58, mic cable or whatever else was handy.
