The last few times I've been back to Cleveland, Mississippi, people come up
to me on the street and say "we sure wish you had the radio stations back,
they are terrible now." Indeed they are, but I was never ever to generate
enough advertising revenue to pay all the bills, despite having the best
small-market stations in the state. The local morning shows are gone now,
the local news is gone, Delta State sports is gone, all the various things
we did to help the community (Coats For Kids, etc.) are all history. The
business community failed to support the radio station as they should have.
They'd spend thousands of dollars for Yellow Pages ads or billboards (both
of which do nothing for the community), but spend little if anything on
radio. You don't know what you've got till it's gone!
