"Tito Guizar and his Guitar". Once introduced as, "Tito Guitar and
his Guizar". I remember his black outfit and black hat with the
little tassels. He would play his "Guizar" for fifteen minutes in
the evening on channel 5. He stood with one foot up on a chair.
As a little kid I got acquainted with Stan Chambers. Stan treated me
very well and on numerous occasions invited me to spend a day with
him at KTLA. I saw the Time for Beany set and I remember being
surprised at how large Beany and Cecil really were. Many years later
when I was chief at KFAC I ran into Stan at the Dorothy Chandler
Pavilion. There were a bunch of people standing around him and I was
part of the group. After a short time I noticed that he was looking
at me with a quizzical look, then asked, "Burt?".
As a result of my growing up under the examples and kindness of
people such as Stan I always try and pass the tradition on. Whenever
I've been out doing a remote and some little kid is curious about
what I'm doing and what all the equipment is about I always make it a
point to invite them over to sit with me. Depending on their level
of interest I may give them a set of headphones to put on have them
push a fader up or down. I remember what it was like for me.
