Personal Note: Frank Grill was a like a dad or mentor to me when I
arrived at Mt. Wilson in 1980. Although later we had personal issues,
I always respected him as a great engineer and one who "knew his stuff".
This item comes to us from Ken Miller, Retired Engineering Supervisor,
K-EARTH 101
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thought you would like to know that Frank Grill (W6RZT)
died on January 22nd due to complications of diabetes.
He was 81. There were no services and he was cremated with his
ashes to be dispersed by his wife Jean and their daughter at an
undisclosed location. From shortly before and during WWII, Frank
served in the Merchant Marine and had a lifelong affinity for
boating.

As I'm sure you are aware, Frank was transmitter supervisor
for Channel 9 in L.A. for a very long time. Even after he retired
from Channel 9, he continued to work part time on Mt. Wilson for
several stations including KCOP(13) and KCET(28) until as recently
as a year or so ago. From my own knowledge, he started working
for Channel 9 -- then KFI-TV -- at their Mt. Wilson site in 1947.
He worked there, nearly continuously, ever since except for a
period when the Chief Engineer died unexpectedly and he was named
Acting Chief until a permanent replacement could be found - a
period that lasted several months.

Frank was a good professional friend and colleague and always
a true gentleman. Condolences may be sent to his home: 2107
Armour Place, Glendale, CA 91208.
