The reason is two fold: Space they need to get 8 stereo ins and 8 stereo
outs in 1RU that would take 32 XLR (no way that is going to happen). It
also allows using Radio Systems Studio Hub dongles and standard shielded cat
5 patch cords to wire up your studio. Believe me it saves a whole lot of
time... no connectors to make up. Yes it is expensive but time costs
money. We built up two studios from scratch using the Axia systems in just
under two weeks... and it works very well.
