An interesting take on it (or IT), Tom.

I must, obviously, disagree.  :-)

There are great similarities between what is done in the typical IT shop today 
and what is done in the typical broadcast shop today; the differences are 
typically the same as the differences between plumbing with PEX and plumbing 
with CPVC.  That is, you need a different set of tools to run PEX from the 
set you need to run CPVC.

The same is true in BE versus IT; different set of tools, similar jobs.  Both 
are service oriented.  Both are types of plumbing, and creative solutions to 
problems (in the IT world, note the proliferation of open source or 'LAMP' 
solutions to problems).  

The whole open source world is built on 'Doing what has to be done.'
