Yes, his name was Al Clemmons and you did scare the crap out of him.  It
appears, back them there was no security and no one when out there so you
were a complete surprise.  He told me of the incident and laughs about it...

I have known Al for many years, since he helped design and install the 468
Mhz timing system transmitted through GOES-10 & 12.  He and a friend also
designed and developed the vertical interval system in use now for closed
captioning on TV stations..

Many years ago, while on vacation in the Ft. Collins area, my wife and I
were driving around out in the countryside and came upon this antenna farm
out
in the country. The front gate was open and no one seemed to be around this
Saturday afternoon. So I drove in and parked, and walked in the door. I was
in a
 large multi-vehicle garage.

One wall was nothing but vacuum tubes on shelves. The tubes were of all
different types and manufacturer.

As I wander along a hallway, I came to what was a large transmitter
gallery.
Transmitters on raised platforms on both sides. I strolled along until  I
came to a room with a large window and older man sitting at a telegraph key
and
a croupiers cap in. Very intent on what he was doing.

Finally, he looked up and I though he was going to pass out. His expression
defied description. He slowly laid down his croupiers cap, came to the door
of
 the office and asked, "who in the hell are you and how did you get in
here!"
 After some exchange of pleasantries, I was accommodated to a very complete
tour  of the WWV facility and even took many pictures with my poloroid
camera.

Perhaps the most amazing was the antenna tuning shack for the 60 Khz.
Transmitter. He opened to door to the large silo shaped building. Around the
side
walls were numerous
4' flourescent tubes, simply lying against the walls at about a 30 degree
angle to the floor.

None of which were connected to anything! Simply, tubes lying against the
wall and all lit very brightly!

I have no idea where those picture are today but if pressed, I imagine they
could be found.
