I always kept a reasonably current tape ready. Just used about an extra 15
minutes of production time, played the tunes and did generic voiceovers into
them. Tried to keep several 15 min versions on the tape, updated one or two
of the versions once a week ...Kept the label on the reel filled out, in
case the songs in the section had occurred on the playlist within an hour
and a half... I could just pick the most appropriate 15 min. segment.

Could really que it up quick when it was a "pressing" emergency... never
got in trouble for that, did get jammed on for not answering the phone.

I asked for a phone in the restroom, they didn't really like that idea.
Never bugged me about it again.

At one station I worked at there was the usuall monitor speaker as well as
Turntable Start/Stop switches in the Can. Those 45s did not last very long
you know.
