WARNING - sexual content of the secret engineering Broadcast Fraternity is
included in the following email!!!!!!!!!!!
I was a jock for most of the early '70s. I still kept my hand in after I
began bringing up and testing new transmitters at CCA, in Gloucester City,
NJ by doing Saturdays at WRCP, Philadelphia, Fifty Thousand Watts of 'Real
Country Power' (RCP).
But note that it was a 50 KW daytimer and I usually worked the FM at
night, after the AM had signed off.
At any rate, the main studio was on the first floor and had a door that
opened out onto an alley and stairs that went down to the bathroom in the
cellar. One Saturday I found that basement bathroom was out of
commission, I had to use the bathroom on the third floor, I put on a long
cut (sorry, don't remember what it was) and ran up to the dark third
floor, not bothering to turn the lights on, since there was enough light
coming in to see the urinal.
As I was going about my business I glanced out of the top part of the
bathroom window (the bottom had a curtain) and discovered that you could
see into the apartment in the townhouse next door. There was a girl about
nineteen or twenty sitting on her bed in her underwear watching TV!
Too bad Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant song wasn't on the
playlist.........
A few Saturdays later a girl came to the back door looking for a jump
start for her car, but I couldn't help, I'd ridden my Honda 305 to the
station, which is why I had the door open (keeping an eye on my bike,
parked in the alley). It didn't have enough juice to jumpstart a car, but
she sure did look familiar. I told her I thought I knew her and asked if
she lived in South Jersey. No, she said she lived in an apartment right
next door......
Oops! No wonder she looked familiar. I didn't recognize her with her
clothes on.
Turns out I wasn't the only one who knew about the view from the third
floor, all the full time jocks knew her, too.
And at WPEN a few blocks away we had binoculars in the engineering
toolkit.
And later, at WNBC-TV, New York, on the Empire State Building we had a
telescope on a tripod and could view the nude sunbathers on the roof of
the Park Avenue apartment buildings. But when we moved to the WTC we were
so far up, and any apartments several blocks over, even that didn't help.
And the saga continues, a studio lighting guy was busted in our building
at our local station, WCBS-TV, last week end for sneaking into the Women's
Room and sticking his cell phone under the stall, trying to snap a
picture.
Luckily we all know what sexual harassment is here at CBS-TV, we had to
watch an instructional video a few years ago, but the girls in our UPN Air
Control still had to schedule (and verify that it went out OK) Fighting
Lesbians Twins (in skimpy outfits) on WWE Smackdown!
Broadcasting is a great career!
