[BC] Re: Relief Recordings

Not quite so.

Several years ago our studios were in a location that required exiting a
self-closing locked door to get to the can. Our overnight announcer
would often put on an LP and then go do his personal business. However,
instead of taking his keys with him he would prop the door open with a
heavy fire extinguisher.

One night, he went through his normal routine, and when he was
comfortably seated on the throne, he heard the fire extinguisher sliding
and the door click shut.

He finished his business and went to find the security guard, who did
NOT have a key to that door. A few minutes later, the police and fire
department showed up (now about 4:30 AM) with sirens going. Some
concerned listeners heard the click-click of the LP for about a half
hour and figured he must have had some serious problem so they called
the police. The police got the door open and the announcer always took
his keys with him after that.

Subject: [BC] Re: Relief Recordings

I knew a guy once who was a DJ for a classic rock station. He told me
once
that when the uncontrollable bathroom urge hit him, he would put on the
long
version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." The 17-minute version (and the
subsequent
18-minute live version) took up one whole side of an LP.

I would venture to guess that announcers working for a classical-music
station don't have much of a problem with this.

That should be a classic addition to anyone's relief list!
