[BC] CALLING ALL AM DAYTIMERS

High School football is now just about the only thing that a small AM
station has left to make any decent money. Before the "flea powers" were
issued in the late 80's to the daytimers, Friday night HS football games
were replayed on Saturday Morning, if there was no FM station in the
area to carry the game. FM stations broadcasting HS Football games
became more scarce as the FM's in Suburban and rural areas were moved
closer to major cities, power upgrades, and then swallowed by group
owners that didn't see the need to carry HS football on Friday nights.
People want to hear these games live, and so do sponsors, not the
next day when it's old news. We all know how parents, grandparents, etc.
can be over their in these games.
I've scan the AM band on Friday night, and it is amazing of all the
daytimers I can hear doing HS football. It's a part of small town
America that should be not disturbed and is helping keep a lot of small
town AM's from going dark, and keeping these stations serving their
communities where the FM's won't, and just for a couple of hours (August
thru November) on Friday night's, it's a DX'er's Delight for logging new
station's. To me, it's a win/win deal for everybody.

Nah - it's a DXer joke. It's a common enough practice, and draws so
little attention from the FCC, that it might as well exist.

(If the state of Texas really DID regulate broadcasting, as the folks in

Shamrock seem to think it does, such "HSFB authorization" would probably

be right at the top of the list!)
