NO excuse for it.  You dont even have to have FX lines any more.  Just get a
remote call forwarding line.  Here in this area they are about 15.00 per
month plus toll if forwarding to a toll number.

   You would be surprised of how many FM stations in this market are in
violation of the local phone number rule!

Ah...but remember, there's also the requirement that a local or
toll-free number be listed in the local phone directory.

Knowing the situation that Mark's thinking of (an FM station serving a
market about 40 miles distant and operated from a cluster studio in that

market, but establishing a "legal" main studio at an AM station near its

city of license, with nothing but a public file and a Gentner that can
dial into the transmitter site to put audio on the air in an emergency),

I checked the phone book for that area. Sure enough, the station's
listed in the phone book for the city of license, so anyone looking for
the public file would, in that case, be able to find it.

What *useful* purpose does it serve? Keeps the lawyers employed, I
guess, and I'm sure the owner of the AM station doesn't mind the extra
income...
