Dan,
I thought to change frequency on AM, no matter if it's up or down one
channel; this was consider a Major Change. I looked in to this several
years ago, and that's what my attorney told me. I found that I could
move my station (a daytimer) to a (Class C) local channel in this area,
I would have to go down to 250 watts daytime, and I would end up with
250 around the clock. But I was told it was a major change and too much
riff/raff to go through.

Particularly if within 20 kHz of the station's existing frequency there
is a
frequency on which higher daytime power is possible (making the change a
minor change--no need to wait for a filing window), and particularly if
no
DA is required, an owner who is willing to sacrifice night coverage can
increase day coverage, sell off much of the Tx site at a profit, and rid
himself of the headache of maintaining a DA--all for the cost of the
engineering and legal fees and a high-powered transmitter.
