When I first became a Christian (early 1986) I "discovered" that station in
the spring of that year. I instantly loved it. They played a lot of
Contemporary Christian Music. (50/50 music/talk) At that time, it was called WLIX. I
hated the fact they had to sign-off at night, and CJSB used to start to obliterate
them before dark. I hated that, too. ;)

I understand that it prospered with it's Christian format, despite being a
Daytimer. What did them in, I believe, was over-extending themselves with the
1550 station in Hartford that they bought. (WLVX) I understand that one of the 3
partners had had enough, and the other two couldn't afford to buy him out, so
they had to sell everything. In one fell-swoop, CT lost 50% of it's Christian
formatted programming. (WLVX in Htfd, and WLIX in LI.)

IMHO, they were playing music that was too uptempo/harsh for the Htfd
Christian market. It was also not a good mix for their 50/50 music/talk Format. Would
have been better with a lite/AC style. Too late now.

BTW, I visited WLIX in March or April of 1987, just a short few months before
I began my career at WFIF, where I remain to this day.

I assume this means CJSB is no more? Interesting.

Anyway, it wasn't too long after they began 24 hour operation, that the
former owners sold it and it was no longer a Christian station. It became MOYL for
a while, as WLUX. Then it became a talker, with the interesting "LIE" calls!
;) I also find it interesting that it is, again, on the verge of failure, yet
they're contemplating a major power & transmitter site upgrade. I wonder if
they're thinking this will make a better ROI for them, when they sell it?

Willie...
