Reminds me of the time when I was a KAMB in Merced, with the XMTR up in the Sierra foothills -- I was up there doing maintenance and got the transmitter back up and running, all was looking well. I got in the car, was driving down the dirt road thru 2 miles of ranch land and turned on the radio. I was hearing the Four Tops and Jan & Dean -- definitely NOT our format! I turned around, went back to the site. Everything was looking good, so I called the studio; no answer. Then I got an ID from a station in Stockton. I put 1 + 1 together ... there was a power outage at the studio. Thus, the phone system and the STL were down. Also, it was a chilly night and a temperature inversion layer was allowing the other station's STL to open the squelch. So, I backed that down and went on back to the studio, a 35-mile, 50-minute drive. By the time I got there the power had been restored. Everything was working, except, we had a dead carrier. I had to drive back up and crank the squelch back up. That's not a fun way to spend the night...
