The old LD circuits used in band signaling at 2400 or 2600 Hz. 
 
More than once I heard some sweetie singing to her lover and when she hit  
the in-band signal frequency long enough the circuit got disconnected and she  
would get P.O.' ed thinking he had hung up on her!
