Paul,
The Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte area has 2 stations playing
standards. Clear Channel's 104.9 and WKII-AM 1070, also owned by Clear.

May seem strange now, but that is exactly what top 40 radio was. Throw
in a
little country like Marty Robbins or Jim Reeves and some instrumentals
from
Ferrante and Teicher and it is rounded out. Nice to see a station doing
that now. The Tampa Bay Florida area where I'm at no longer has a
station
that plays standards. Kinda dumb in my book. The part of the country
with
the oldest demos you could ever get not playing the music they like.
And
yes, all kinds of openings for local ads. Buicks, condo's, funeral and
cremation services, golf courses, the early bird special at the greasy
spoon, where to get your medicare RX filled, trailer park services, free
checking at the local bank and on and on. Probably no room for it.
Most of
the best AM signal are now Spanish language or some kind of religious
format.

Paul Smith,
yup, I get free checking
