If you're serious about recording TV then build your own home theatre PC
(HTPC). I have one that runs the SageTV software (www.sage.tv) that has 5
Tuners in it. 2 HDTV, and 3 NTSC. it records all the programs I wasn't (in
a standard MPEG2 format), as its recording a utility runs in the background
that automatically creates an edit list to remove the commercials and strips
them out, so they dont playback. And if I want to burn something to DVD i
just drag and drop the MPEG file into DVD creator, or if I want to email
something i just convert it over to WMA, etc.

If I desire I can use this box as my server and stream any of the tuners
over a network to other PCs (connected to TVs preferably) in the house to
watch live programs, or playback ones that are already recorded.
