Why destroy it? Know someone with an x-ray machine? That should do it.

I would suspect that there are some wealthy audiophools out there would would 
plunk-down big bux to get their mitts on such a "legendary" device! If the 
thing is as you say, then it's akin to the "oxygen-free copper" wires they pay 
$200 a foot to get.
