Get yourself to Sears and pick up a GE Superadio III for $49.99.
It has absolutely the best-sounding AM tuner, and also the best AM
reception, of any affordable radio made today. You can hook it up
to your home stereo through the earphone jack, but it also sounds
great all by itself, thanks to its high-quality speaker system with
a gutsy 6?" woofer and separate 2" tweeter. The only downside is
that calibration of its tuning dial tends to be rather poor, but if
you know the layout of your local AM and FM radio bands you can always
stick on your own perfectly calibrated tuning scale.
