This is my experience, as well. We have a very good working relationship with
the Engineer of a station in the next town. His station is part of a big
group, so he hasn't needed our help, but he's always been there when we needed
him. Our formats are quite different, so there's no competition there.
Our sister station in Maine has a cooperative relationship with another
nearby station, and they often work together to promote concerts, etc. Although
both are a Christian format, our station is 95% talk, theirs is 95% music... so
instead of being "competitors", they are compliments of one another. They work
together to reach an even larger audience. That's always a good thing.
As for "never" cheating or bending the Rules... I don't think a single one of
us can, truthfully, say this. There's always *something*, somewhere... we may
kick the TX on for a few seconds to check a reading, then drop it without an
ID for example... or some other such innocuous Rule-breaking. Also, how many
of us have *never* briefly had an "experimental" transmitter on the air that
was just a tad above P15 limits? (Especially in our wild youth??) It almost
seems to be a "rite of passage" into B'casting, (especially Engineering) no? ;)
