Stan and I visited the site yesterday. The old 407, Western Electric is a
beauty. They have made many modifications based on performance and
availability of tubes.
The two WE241's in the low level modulated stage have been replaced by three
833-A's, The Machlett Triodes in the 5 kW. Doherity have been replaced
with 1 each 6696 operating in linear mode driving the two 6696 tubes in the
Doherity Final 50 kW PA stage, one in the peak and one in the carrier tube
position.
They also have the 407 from KOMA in Oklahoma City in their storage room for
parts. It is a newer transmitter than the WTOP Western Electric.
Dual heat exchangers for the water cooling system, it could run on one heat
exchanger.
Also there was an old Collins 820F-1, 10 kW AM as their auxiliary on site.
