Do what I did - commute. I lived in New York and worked in Homer, AK. 
I spent one week every three weeks in Homer recording the Tom Bodett 
"End of the Road Show." Tom and I drove it once. I can't say I'd want 
to be a consulting engineer much farther North than Anchorage. In 
Winter those roads are tough.
