You are correct about KNOE (the FM). I think he may have started in 
Laurel MS (WNSL??). I only had the chance to work a couple of weekends 
in Jackson as I had then committed to programming Charlie Holt's 
disaster in Hattiesburg (always the promise of a promotion to WHHY in 
Montgomery which never happened), but I've kept in touch with Mr. Tanner 
off and on (more off than on) over the years. Last time we traded email, 
he was VP of programming for Heftel in LA and was running his own 
production company.
As for after 'JDX, Bill wound up on his feet as PD of WHYI Y-100 Miami. 
He also made stops at 13Q in Pittsburgh, WASH in DC and some other Miami
