I was an operator in the cordboard days. There was no
such thing. You could as an operator, listen in ONLY
to calls that were on your board. One day I had a call
and the wife and husband were arguing. I accidentally
cut the wife off. I reconnected and apologized for it.
She blamed him and was screaming so loudly she not
only cross talked all the calls on MY board, but half
the positions near me. ALL the coversations on my
board quit to listen to her scream at him. My
supervisor came over and plugged in. To monitor you
pulled the switch to you. I took my headset off. She
was SO loud you could hear her 50 feet away in that
big room.
