Dana- how could you fault the poor Optimod for being forced to regurgitate
that "noise"? ;) You certainly can't blame the poor transmitter for committing
suicide, either.
Back when we were still running "Ol' Bessie" (the CCA AM5000-D) it had
extremely poor bass response. Ol' Bessie sounded almost like someone doing
raspberries on every bass note. It was pretty nasty. I remember tweaking the bass
control on the Texar processor all the way to minimum. It was *just* enough to
make the music sound "acceptable". Since we're 90% talk, anyway, this was the
best compromise.
Once we got the new Gates 5 and the Optimod, things improved by at least an
order of magnitude. For a lowly AM, what little music we do play sounds quite
good, now. Of course, the voices sound a whole lot better, too!
When I finally get that old RCA working, I'll probably need to put a
high-pass filter inline, to roll back the bass. Don't wanna fry it's x-former... that
happened once, already, before we got it. The old tranny only has one
surviving secondary coil.
Willie...
