This has been covered before but I am not sure there was a conclusion. I
have always believed that RCA exciter with the motor-driven frequency
correction (MI-7015?) was unofficially called Iron Fireman because of
its superficial resemblance to an oil burner of that name designed for
retrofit into old residential coal furnaces. The name referred to the
homeowner no longer having to shovel coal into the furnace and the
trademark was a robot with a coal shovel. "Fireman" as on a steam
locomotive. The house I lived in from 1956 to 1963 had one of them.
