Burt,

Never had a problem with the big tubes.  It was always the 807 or smaller
that would turn blue.

I know of one transmitter that has 833 in the modulators and 
finals.  It gets turned on about once a year and is always raring to 
go.  If you have a decent seal on the tube/s it should be able to sit 
with the filaments off for many years with no problems.  I always 
tried to get JAN or Eimac tubes.  The JAN 833's were great.
