The trouble is, in more and more areas of the country, while your house has 
POTS it's only "traditional" to one of these magic huts or boxes. Then 
you're subject to the battery limit if they do not provide gensets and a 
scheme to refuel them.

The driving force is to allow phonecos to offer data and video on demand - 
so in time, if this continues, fewer and fewer will have copper to CO 
directly.

After Rita last year, in my area, T-Moble cell carrier did an upgrade and 
now has natural gas powered gensets at every site I've seen. The "old" plan 
was diesel gensets on towable trailers. They learned that after a "Rita" or 
"Katrina", they could not keep those gensets refueled, and deploying them 
was difficult also.
