Randy,
Are you sure these were Speak-on connectors? Neutrik makes a connector
for power call Power-Con that looks a lot like the Speak-On's.

Several months ago, we received some new lights wired with audio
Speak-on connectors for the power connection.
I couldn't believe that audio connectors would be used on lights. The
lighting guy said they were the best
connector they found for the job because they were lightweight and
locked in place. He claimed they are used
in Europe all the time.
There have been some installs in theatres where someone will use an A/C
cord to extend speaker connections.
It has happened that someone will plug the cord into the wall outlet
causing damage to the speakers. Mixing
connectors outside their field of use just seems dangerous to me.
