[BC] tube sound (tube transmitters)

Yep.

And that very TX is still in auxilary use to this day at WCAP, in Lowell, MA.

It was bought off the NAB floor by their owner, the late Ike Cohen. His
brother Morris runs the station now. Both of them signed the station on in the
late '40's.

I used to contract for WCAP. When I started, my rate was but 20 dollars an
hour. Over the years it more then doubled, except for WCAP. My (now ex) wife
would not allow me to raise their rates. She said that the twinkle in Ike's
eyes whenever he talked about radio was payment enough.
This from a woman who wanted nothing to do with radio.

Their back room is one of the coolest broadcast museums I've ever seen. It's
loaded with old tube stuff, Heathkits, etc. They even have a complete lathe in
the back room.

I have never heard one, but a NAB Convention veteran friend of mine did see
a secretary assemble one on the NAB floor.

To this day, I have yet to hear an AM Xmtr that can match the incredible
"clarity" of the Bauer 707 . Perhaps I'm deaf in one ear and can't hear out
of the other, but there is was something special about that xmtr. Was
available in a "kit form" they tell me. Anyone here have any thoughts on
what made it unique ???
