Phil,

There may be some truth to it.  My distributors tell me 
that Chinese industrial growth created their demand for 
wire and copper products.  I understand that their internal 
demand is decreasing now but that now there are other far 
eastern areas that are growing and using Chinese copper 
products.

Supposedly Japan's copper demand has increased dramatically 
recently.

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but one thing
that might have been a factor was supposedly a Chinese
order for acres and acres of sheet copper for roofing their 

entire Olympic facilities. Seems a little farfetched to me,
but it was rumored to be a huge quantity. Of course as
China's industry grows larger plants the electrical
infrastructure of the whole country must expand and that
probably will put a heavier load on world supplies.
