Here's a real-world example: I grew up listening to Jean Shepherd on WOR in
New York. He was an absolute master of this (particularly with some of his
inimitable Army stories), and could make quite plain what exact "military
phrase" he had in mind even while staying completely within the bounds of the
broadcast decorum of the time (this was 1960's and early 70's, and was quite
a bit stricter than even today). I still have a couple hundred episodes of
his program on MP3 -- priceless material!
So yes, I'd agree here -- shooting off one's mouth with four letter words is
generally a mark of the *failure* of creativity, not a signpost for creative
"genius".
