[BC] WBAA at Perdue license issue explained

I've seen many applications like this, especially with quite a few AM
daytimers around here in the rural areas. Bear in mind with some (NOT
ALL) but some of these rural AM daytime licensees, the owner is not
computer literate and doesn't even know the FCC web site even exist.
When the FCC sends out renewal cards in the regular mail, they either
get lost in the mail or some kid gets the mail when it comes in and they
think it's junk mail, so thrown to the way side. Then, when someone
starts snooping in the CDBS database, they find a "D" by those call
letters, then the owner/operator gets a call saying "The FCC deleted
your license. You forgot to file the renewal!" Then, the licensee calls
his/her attorney right away to try to get it straighten out, which
causes more money and headaches then for everybody!
I've advised some of the guys that own a small, independent, AM daytimer
like me to ALWAYS keep a FCC Attorney on retainer. There are some good
ones that look after your best interest.

That's only part of the story, and a bit misleading. WBAA says, and I
have no reason to doubt them, that they filed the renewal on time back
in 2004. They have a CDBS file number that was issued back then to prove
it.
So the problem appears to have been in CDBS - though I'd think someone
at the station or at its DC law firm would have raised a red flag when
no renewal postcard ever came in the mail.
My guess is that the renewal will be granted and no fine will be issued.
We'll see.
