The only substantial CD devices I have seen are the ERI devices.  The others that I have seen when hit usually send out molten metal.  I heard from riggers that most of the CD devices have significantly burn spokes.

    I was describing the Static-cat system to a friend one time standing
at the base of another station's tower, when I glanced down and found a
couple of the spikes laying on the ground from the Rip off system (NOT
ACTUAL STATIC CAT BRAND) that had been installed.  I don't know whether they
just fell off or were blown off by static discharge, but they had no signs
of burning.  I was to lazy to climb up 400 feet to see.  Not sure how
effective the real system is, but the many rip offs on the market are often
built poorly.
