[BC] FM Modulators for Satellite Radio

I've heard enough FM modulators "leaking" hundreds of feet to agree
there's a problem.  Are there any discussions underway within the
consumer electronics and automotive industries to designate a non-FM
band standard (such as Bluetooth, or even an old-fashioned wired
connector) to make these devices talk to one another?

Speaking of connectors, I'm rather disappointed that iBiquity hasn't
required all HD receiver manufacturers to include an output port for
the "raw" data stream, which would allow adapters to be interfaced as
new applications( such as enchanced PAD, traffic reports, etc.) are
developed in the future.   Many of the '70s vintage analog tuners at
least offered a wideband composite output in case "quad" adapters were
someday developed -- now we supposedly have a system that gives
broadcasters a new "data broadcasting" revenue stream, but I guess
users will need to throw away their existing receivers each time a new
idea comes along.
